All earrings are made using polymer clay (a sculpting compound using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and a liquid plasticiser). This is a super lightweight material, making all earrings really comfortable to wear even for long periods of time. Even the bigger, more dangly styles are really light (approx. 2-4 grams per earring), so there’s no worry of feeling like your ears are carrying a week’s worth of food shopping from each ear lobe! Polymer clay is also really durable, however, please remember that these are still handcrafted and need to be treated with care - so long as you do this, you should be able to wear your earrings for years to come! Yay!
The earring posts (the metal bit that goes through your ears) are either gold-plated (nickel free), or titanium, which is known to be suitable for people with especially sensitive ears and those prone to allergic reactions from certain metals.
*FUN FACT* - Titanium is the choice of metal used by surgeons to carry out hip replacements, due to its strength, lightness and compatibility with the human body, so great qualities for use in jewellery too!

Several hours of work goes into making just one pair of earrings. Each pair goes through multiple steps before the end product is created. This involves hand mixing clay colours before beginning to work with them, creating the actual earring, cutting, baking, sanding, adding any patterns (e.g. polka dots) which requires another bake in the oven in order to 'set' the print so that it does not wear off over time, drilling, (glossing), and finally assembling.
All my earring backs are embedded so that they are durable and long-lasting, without the worry of the backs falling off. This is a fiddly and lengthy process which requires me to bake the stud, stick the earring back onto the baked clay, and to add additional clay on top before re-baking, so that the earring back is enclosed inside. I then delicately sand, drill and gloss each one before it is ready to be assembled onto the main earring.
A lot of care and attention goes into making my earrings, and I kindly ask you to be patient if a certain product you like is currently out of stock. · Please keep your earrings away from moisture by removing them before showering, bathing, swimming, or exercising. Although polymer clay is waterproof, they should not be submerged in water as this can cause the clay to break down over time and weaken it.
· Avoid direct contact with perfume, body lotions, cosmetics and any chemicals.
· Store in the little hessian bag provided, or in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight.
· Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and will naturally tarnish overtime (known as patina). Oils from our skin and oxygen in the air will accelerate this tarnishing, hence why it's important to store your earrings properly when not being worn. Some people welcome the rustic look the build up of patina creates, however, if you wish to restore the shine, you can do so by using a brass cleaner - I really recommend using a home-made, natural one made from items you’re already likely to have around the home, as it is much better for the environment than products you find in high street stores (e.g. Brasso).
For the natural remedy - mix 1/3 a cup of vinegar, 1x teaspoon of salt, and enough flour to form a paste, OR/ mix the juice of a lemon with 2x teaspoons of baking soda until it forms a paste. Carefully coat ONLY the brass part of the earring with the paste and let it sit for around 10 mins. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
YAY! SHINY EARRINGS :)
